Thank you, Mr. Sykes for investing your time in helping our students with their science lessons. Second grade scientists planted sunflowers. Students learned how to prepare a bed for planting and sowed seeds. They will monitor these plants in the fall for pollinators. These student observations will be entered in the national Pollinator Friendly Plants Program which is compiling data on regional plants that support pollinators. Third grade students joined Mr. Tom Sykes in planting perennial flowers in their tulip bed. They learned how to prepare holes for planting and transplant young plants. Students planted foxglove, bee balm, black-eyed Susan, butterfly weed, and false indigo. These native perennials will help to attract pollinators and birds. View photo gallery here.
